Sabrina - 1954
Cats: Set Your Recorders, Comedy, Romance, Bogart, New York|Both Humphrey Bogart and William Holden are too old for their roles. Mr. Bogart hated working with director Billy Wilder. No matter what, Humphrey Bogart quit work at 6:00 PM on the dot, because that was the time he started drinking his Scotch and sodas. If anyone tried to get him to work after 6pm, he would just walk away. Mr. Wilder often worked past 6:00 PM. Mr. Bogart was not too fond of William Holden. Mr. Holden was not too fond of Humphrey Bogart (personally I find that shocking). Mr. Bogart was a last minute replacement for Cary Grant. Mr. Bogart disapproved of Audrey Hepburn as he wanted his wife Lauren Bacall in the role. Mr. Holden fell in love with Audrey Hepurn. Mr. Bogart got $300000, Mr. Holden got $150000 and Ms. Hepburn only $15000. Asked how he liked working with Ms. Hepburn, Bogart replied: “It’s ok, if you don’t mind 20 takes.” The picture however overcomes what could be seen as tremendous obstacles and is great. A legacy to these actor’s professionalism and talent.
Linus (Bogart) and David (Holden) Larrabee are the two sons of a very wealthy Long Island family. Linus is all work - always busy running the family business he has no time for a wife and family. David is all play - a frivolous playboy, technically he is employed by the family business, but never shows up for work, spends all his time entertaining, and has been married and divorced three times. Meanwhile, Sabrina Fairchild is the young, shy, and awkward daughter of the family chauffeur, who has been infatuated with David all her life, but David hardly notices her. This all changes when she goes away to Paris for two years, and returns an elegant, sophisticated, beautiful woman. Suddenly, she finds that she’s finally got David’s attention, but just as she does so, she finds herself falling in love with Linus, and she finds that Linus is also falling in love with her.
Great picture, safe for the kids.
