Architect Larry Coe (Kirk Douglas) is missing something in life. He has a wife and family and a successful practice. It’s not until he becomes embroiled in an affair with beautiful Maggie Gault (Kim Novak), a neighbor with her own family, that he finds what he has been missing. She is in a sexless marriage and has grown quite disiliusioned with the sanctity of her wedding vows. All this in the age of Eisenhower / 1950’s sexually repressd America. The two lovers are forced to face the choice between love and loyalty. Walter Matthau is great as the slimey neighbor.
