The complaint was “no American soldier would ever get a woman pregnant”. This is what was said by the Hollywood office of the War Department during World War II. The picture was completed in 1943 but Paramount held the film from being released for almost a year. However, a woman does get pregnant by an American soldier in this comic masterpiece from the genius of Preston Sturges. Trudi Kockenlocker (Betty Hutton), the daughter of the local law Constable Kockenlocker (Sturges regular William Demarest), goes out with some soldiers the night before they ship out against her father’s orders. After a head injury and a great deal of drinking, she remembers getting married but can’t remember the soldier’s name. That is were the fun begins.

Norval Jones (Eddie Bracken) a 4F local boy has been in love with Trudi since they were kids. Norval had reluctantly agreed to cover for Trudi during her night out with the boys. As her date, Norval can be trusted. Trudi convinces Norval to wait for her in the local movie theatre for her alleged return in a couple of hours. This way her alibi is complete with Norval escorting her home after the date. However, when Trudi meets Norval early the next morning, all heck breaks loose. Now Norval is stuck in the lie and then when Trudi finds out about a blessed event he is even more stuck. After being arrested for impersonating a soldier, his escape facilitated by Constatble Kockenlocker, Norval is neck deep in this situation and decides to set out on a world wide quest to clear everything up.

A huge Movie Place favorite and just an all around great picture. The kids will love it.
